Reflection

The FedEx lady came into my office today and mentioned that we were lucky that we received our delivery today because it has been so busy.

It made me think of a couple Christmases ago. There was a big snow storm in Seattle - I'm sure some of you remember this. The problem with snow in Seattle is that, since it doesn't snow a lot in Seattle and since it's so hilly - nobody knows how to deal with it. Everything shuts down.

This particular year, all of the shipping companies were shut down too. They couldn't deliver anything. One of the gifts I was expecting for Holland was being shipped UPS and wasn't going to be able to get to my house for WEEKS (For completeness' sake, this wouldn't be the last time Holland's gifts wouldn't arrive by Christmas, but those are whole separate stories). They suggested that we could go to the UPS shipping center to pick it up. So one day, around Christmas, we headed over to Renton (?) to pick it up.

When we got there, the line was out the door. And around the building. And in the snow.

As we got closer and closer to the front, we quickly came to the realization that not many people were coming out with packages. Apparently, because UPS had been shut down for so long and they had such a large quantity of packages (due to the holidays), they had just been just shoving all packages into trucks. In no particular order.

Why, yes, I did choose this picture particular for the man in the UPS shorts.
It was chaos. They found almost nothing that day. But when someone came out with a package, the whole line cheered for the one Christmas miracle.

Today as I was reflecting on that, it made me laugh so I thought I would share it with those of you who didn't live it (or hear about it thereafter).

I remember that winter. What did you order? Also, I hate UPS.
